    Administrative history

The Branch Societies are integral to the MSNS. The provincial organization and each of the Branches are organized on a similar basis; each has a President, Vice-President and Executive Committee. Each Branch has control within its own jurisdiction, with representation on the Executive Committee of the MSNS. Their main objectives are to keep abreast of the advances in medicine and surgery, to foster good public relations between members of the Branch Society and the people in the communities they serve, and to integrate the Branch closely with the MSNS. Nearly all of the Branch Societies began as county medical societies, of which, by the turn of the century, there were eight. Over time the number of Branch Societies affiliated with the provincial organization has changed, primarily owing to re-organization or amalgamation with other Branches, and there have been some name changes.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

Series consists of 15 sub-series. Includes correspondence between the Branch secretaries and the MSNS's executive secretaries regarding schedules of meetings, membership dues, committee nominations, meeting updates, and medical issues, as well as minutes of meetings, membership lists, constitutions and by-laws, minute books and other records. Although not complete these records reflect the close interaction between the MSNS and Branch Societies, and some of the concerns and interests of the local societies.
