Biographical history
Susannah Duffus Morrow, eldest child of John and Mary Anne (Duffus) Morrow, was born on 21 October 1822 at Halifax, N.S. She married William James Stairs (1819-1906) on 16 June 1845. The couple resided in Halifax where W.J. operated the family hardware firm, Wm Stairs Son and Morrow and later became president of the Union Bank. The Stairs had thirteen children: William, John Fitzwilliam, Maryanne, James, Margaret Wiseman, Edward, George, Ethel, Herbert, Catherine, Gavin Lang, Joanna, and Richard Kidston.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of a journal kept by Susan Stairs containing personal reminiscences and genealogical data on related families including Morrow, Duffus, Murdoch, and Salter. Vital statistics pertaining to the Morrow family are included on pages 10 to 15, the Duffus family on pages 29 and 30, and to the Murdochs on pages 30 and 31.
