      Roland Fraser Harris was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia on 30 October 1903, the son of William Fraser and Martha Bell (Holmes) Harris. He was educated at the Pictou Academy and received his master's certificate for foreign going steamships in Saint John, New Brunswick in March 1929. Thereafter, he served in the merchant marine until the outbreak of World War II when he served as a Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy on Canadian ships including: H.M.C.S. Arras, Trillium, Regina, Niagara, Annapolis, and Nabob. After the war he worked as President and manager of Insul-Mastic Maritime Limited, a self-owned waterproofing business in Halifax. He was twice married. His first wife was Lilias Augusta Sheppard of Montreal, Quebec and they married in 1933. His second wife was Helen A. MacDonald of Halifax whom he married in 1957. He died in Halifax on 22 October 1960/These records were acquired by Sharon MacDonald in 1993.
