    Custodial history

Prior to 2010 the Archives received these materials 10 years after the date of creation. By Order in Council 2010-422 the retention period of these materials at the Executive Council Office was increased to 30 years resulting in the return of approximately 20 years of records to that Office and a change in the date range and extent of materials at the Nova Scotia Archives.

    Scope and content

Forms part of Nova Scotia Executive Council and consists of approved reports and recommendations to the Executive Council. While the report and recommendation generally contains the text of the proposed Order in Council they often contain background information for the Executive Council explaining the reasons behind the proposed action. In some cases the Order in Council simply approves a report that then contains much greater detail than the text of the Order. Regulations and agreements are often approved as schedules or reports supplementary to the Order in Council. Rejected reports and recommendations were not retained in this series by the Executive Council Office.
