Collection also includes accounts for care of the sick and transient poor, returns of the Commissioners of the Poor to the clerk of the legislature, correspondence to and from local boards of health, petitions for relief to the House of Assembly, and accounts of the central board of health. This collection comprises records of local boards of health, the provincial secretary's office, the provincial treasurer, the House of Assembly, and the Commissioners of the Poor. quarterly returns of birth registrations made by local registrars and forwarded to the federal statistics office in Halifax N.S. For each birth the registration information includes the name of the person born, the date and place of birth, the mother's maiden name, the father's name, residence and occupation, when and where the parents were married, the date and birth was registered and who provided the information. The returns are in alphabetical order by name of registration district.

Fonds consists of Halliburtons judicial papers and personal correspondence, 1788-1859. Most of the documents pertain to Halliburtons career as Supreme Court justice, 1833-1853, consisting of court case documents, legal opinions and decisions on rules of evidence and points of law. Also includes Halliburtons addresses to court colleagues, and his commissions as puisne judge of the Supreme Court and for other positions. The personal correspondence was with colleagues and relatives, largely concerning financial matters and real estate. The documents were arranged in chronological order after donation.

Also includes records relating to the Progressive Conservative Party Association, legislative committees, and the various departments in which he served as minister.

Fonds consists of a manuscript by Barrett documenting his travels from England to Halifax in the late 1850s and his experiences at Albion Mines (renamed Stellarton,1870), prospecting for gold in N.S., his move to the United States and job as a bookseller, and working in the coal mines in Springhill, N.S. It includes an account of the Drummond Colliery Disaster, Stellarton, 1873; working conditions in coal mines in Pictou and Springhill in the 1870s; encounters with various individuals throughout his travels, and a personal account of the justice system during the mid-1870s.

Fonds consists of correspondence and other records created and accumulated by Fielding as minister of finance and MP for Shelburne-Queens. Subjects represented include railways and public works in Nova Scotia, and national and international issues including elections, budget, tariffs, trade, reciprocity, transportation, civil service, Confederation, conscription, and imperial policy. Fonds includes speeches, speech notes, statistics, pamphlets and other published material, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and ephemera. A small portion of the correspondence concerns Fielding's personal investments and his appointments as editor. Fonds also contains newspaper clippings, genealogical notes, probate records and other material relating to Fielding's family, including his son-in-law K.N. Macfee (first husband of Janet); photographs of Fielding on board a ship during a trip to England ca. 1910; and a portrait of Fielding painted by Margaret Frame in 1928.

Fonds consists of business and shipping records of Pickford & Black, including thirteen shipping registers containing entries of every ship calling at Halifax between 1873 and 1939. The registers list date of arrival of the ship, rig and name, tonnage, port, master, destination, previous port visited and duration of voyage, consignee, and wharf where the cargo was unloaded. The fonds also contains the firm's letter books (1890-1914, 1933-1934), account books (1887-1911), cash books (1897-1934), general ledgers (1875-1936), ship diaries (1923-1931), a log book for the SS Oruro (1913), ships' manifests and related cargo information (1905-1939), and a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, shipping rules, circulars, and a few letters (1912-1915).
