Fonds consists of transcripts of evidence heard by the Commission from 15 October 1927 to 20 March 1928. The 15 bound volumes also contain minutes of the commissioners' meetings concerning the approach they would follow in pursuing their investigation of the fisheries and its problems. Each volume contains a content listing of the witnesses heard; the listing also indicates the various topics addressed by those witnesses in their evidence.

Fonds consists of correspondence, 1880-1897, shipping records 1875-1912, and financial records, 1880-1908, including Captain Levi Atkins' account books. The records document the company's business transactions and relationships with business associates such as the J.F. Whitney & Company, New York, and Arkell Brothers Wholesale & Export Clothiers, Cardiff, as well as activities of ship's captains who managed vessels for the company. Fonds also includes records documenting transactions and events occuring through regular shipping and travel between ports, such as change of crew members, conflicts, bills of health, and cargo manifests, 1875-ca.1900. After the company changed hands in 1895 the records document limited shipping activites as well as Spicer family and farming activities. Also includes a blueprint drawing of a ship.

Fonds consists of correspondence, diaries, and other records created and accumulated by the Spicer family, the majority of which relate to Captain Dewis Spicer. Includes letters from his family and business associates, 1873-1918, and his diaries, 1876-1936, describing his life at sea and at home including daily weather and activities. After his death in March 1936, the diaries were briefly continued by daughter Gretchen, followed by son Earl Carlyle ("Carl") until 1948. Other records in the fonds include two diaries of Emma Spicer kept while at sea with her husband in 1880 and 1882; correspondence between Spicer family members, including letters from Dewis to Emily and letters written by Carl Spicer to his parents during the First World War; notebook of poems and songs; financial records; pamphlets and other published material; certificates and other personal documents; ephemera; and photographs of ships and Spicer family and friends. Other family members represented in the fonds include Jacob Spicer, Wylie Spicer, Johnson Spicer, and George Spicer. Fonds also includes shipping documents relating to ships Colchester, Savona and Charles S. Whitney, along with related documentation. Some of the records document the wages of the sailors on the vessels, provide details about towage and dry dock work, and give information about the ownership of the ships.

Interior and exterior views of log cabins, houses and camping sites are included.

Fonds consists of five volumes used by Rudolf as diaries to record daily events, impressions and community and broader political and social issues of the day in both Nova Scotia and Great Britain. The diaries contain inserts taken from various publications of interest to Rudolf. Fonds also includes a photograph of the Town of Pictou from the the vicinity of Pictou Landing taken in the 1880s.

Fonds consists of films of Gorsebrook Golf Club in the 1930s, various golf tournaments, Hubbards, Cape Breton, a 1939 exhibition and Halifax showing the results of VE Day. They generally reflect events and activities in Babcock's daily life. Also included is a Robert Jones instructional golf film ca. 1930s, which is one in a series produced by Jones. The film demonstrates the appropriate method of using the various clubs (ie. swing, stance, etc).

Fonds consists of the research done by Barss and Gordon for "Older Ways: Traditional Nova Scotia Craftsmen" published in 1980. Between 1975 and 1977 they interviewed and photographed 30 artisans who were practicing a traditional craft in Nova Scotia, which produced a practical item (i.e. folk artists were eliminated). Included are: images taken by Barss of the craftspeople at work; interviews with the craftspeople conducted by Barss and Gordon; the creator's grant applications and correspondence, press clippings, etc., relating to the 1977 exhibit at Mount St Vincent Art Gallery based on their research; and a copy of their final publication. Of those interviewed, 19 artisans were from Lunenburg County, five from Kings County, and three from both Queens and Annapolis Counties. Their crafts include the making of fish nets, sails, knives, baskets, butter churns and tool handles. During their interviews, they discuss the technical aspects of their craft as well as modern lifestyles and values as compared to traditional ones.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Blakeley in the course of her career, including her activities as historian and archivist, her research and publications, and involvement with various professional and special interest organizations. Fonds contains research material such as notes, clippings, photocopies of documents, correspondence, draft chapters of books, and rough drafts of articles and speeches, particularly dealing with Nova Scotia history, including Halifax, the United Empire Loyalists, Samuel Cunard, and biographies for the Dictionary of Canadian Biography. Fonds also contains incoming and outgoing correspondence concerning archives business, her publications and personal activities, personal documents, diaries, travel journals, programs, pamphlets and other ephemera, certificates, genealogical notes on the Blakeley family and others, various records relating to Blakeley's involvement with Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, local history committee of the Canadian Historical Association, as well as records relating to her sister Shirley Blakeley. Photographs are found among the textual records, several of which were used in her publications. Most of the fonds is arranged in alphabetical order, with the exception of Blakeley's correspondence and personal papers which are organized chronologically.

Fonds consists of two diaries kept by eighteen-year old Sarah Clinch which chronicle the events of her visit to Halifax. The diaries cover the period from October 1, 1853 in anticipation of her departure from Boston and continue through the duration of her stay in Halifax from 15 November 1853 to 14 August 1854. Entries in the diary describe personal and family news as well as leisure and church activities, excursions to local sights in Halifax and surrounding area, and social events including balls and visits to the homes of friends and relatives in Halifax, Windsor, and Cornwallis. The family names comprising Sarah's social circle that are mentioned in her diaries include Allison, Almon, Bliss, Haliburton, Starr, and Uniacke.

Collection consists of records compiled or accumulated by Sharon MacDonald, including correspondence, promotional items, photographs, press clippings and related documentation. The contents of the collection include documents relating to her uncle, Roland F. Harris, as well as files of Mr. W.P. Potter, a lawyer who practiced in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Mr. Potter's files include information about Lady Bessie B. Borden, the Nova Scotia Tuberculosis Commission, and the Nova Scotia Motor League and their publication, The Headlight, along with photographs of 1920s car crashes and wrecks and the ship, Lady Nelson. Also includes some genealogical information about her Murray family connections and more specifically the descendants of Alexander (1765-1826) and Mary (Beaton or Matheson) Murray of Achnagarrin Farm in Rogart, Sutherlandshire, Scotland.
