Subseries forms part of Circuit records at Truro series and consists of minute books created by the prothonotary to record daily court activity at a high level. The minutes may record the name of the presiding judge, jury selection, grand jury findings, the remanding of prisoners, cases, witnesses and outcomes. The minutes are not consistent in their level of detail and may be as brief as "docket completed" or be very detailed. Some books also contain similar records relating to proceedings of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas.
Subseries forms part of Kings County circuit records series and consists of volumes used by the sheriff to record the serving and return of writs. A case would be commenced by filing with the prothonotary a notice of action and statement of claim. This would then be served on the defendant by the sheriff who would deposit a returned writ with the prothonotary indicating that the originating notice had been served. These books record the cause number, parties, legal counsel, amount sought and costs, dates writs were served and returned. The books were used for both Supreme and County court actions. Series is arranged chronologically.

For later cases, proceedings and fees charged are not provided and cases are assigned an alphanumeric identification code. Cases are listed as civil (jury or non-jury) or criminal.

Sub-series forms part of Circuit records at Sydney and consists of two volumes recording rules of the supreme court. The dated volume is a handwritten copy of what is also found as RG 1 Volume 143 in the Halifax records of the Supreme Court. These rules would appear to date primarily from the time when Cape Breton was a separate jurisdiction and during which the Halifax rules would not appear to have been directly applicable. The second, undated, volume belonged to C.L. Leonard, who was prothonotary when Cape Breton was a separate colony and who continued to act after reannexation.

Correspondence is with solicitors and creditors and is relating to settlements of damage and costs. Series also includes statements of account, orders for foreclosure and sale, auction or sale notices and receipts, writs to serve, executions of levy of goods, and reports relating to foreclosures and sales.
Subseries forms part of Circuit Records at Windsor series and consists of record books in which the Sheriff recorded case information (names of parties, case number, etc), the amount of different bids made, and copies of certificates issued to successful buyers enabling them to register their purchases, should it be land, in the Registry of Deeds. A number of advertising posters, receipts, copies of court documents and other items were included within the books and have been separated for preservation reasons. Most of the auctions were the consequence of Supreme Court decisions that awarded judgments in civil suits; some were related to the non-payment of taxes.
