Bourinot, John George, 1836-1902Consists of records accumulated by Burrill in the course of his research and publication of his book, Away: Maritimers in Massachusetts, Ontario, and Alberta. Includes interviews conducted by Burrill of approximately 108 people who had left the Maritimes to take up residence or find employment in Massachusetts, Ontario, or Alberta. The large majority of the interviews were conducted in 1981 in the aforementioned places. The exceptions are interviews with John Johnston and Leo and Marg St. John which took place in 1980 in the Maritimes after they had returned. Most interviewees were selected through personal contacts of the author. Among the topics discussed in the interviews are: family and work history, reasons for leaving the Maritimes, thoughts on returning to the Maritimes, attitudes of the local people towards Maritimers. Textual records include edited and unedited transcripts of interviews, correspondence, research material and notes, and draft manuscript.

Frame, Christina Ross, 1860-1950Consists of annual reports, 1954-1976, originated from the parent company (e.g. Dosco or Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd.), but are incomplete. Each includes a separate report on subsidiaries, including the Halifax Shipyards. The board of directors' files contain minutes, correspondence and similar material, while the management committee files include minutes, organizational charts and policy manuals. The contracts and agreements consist both of contract books (which have daily entries of ships built and repaired) and contract documents, which concern major construction projects such as steel fishing trawlers, SEDCO oil rigs, and the Panamax floating dry dock. The financial statements were known by various titles from 1918-1970, such as "consolidated balance sheets and profit and loss accounts", "president's reports", and "financial reports". The reports and studies were those undertaken internally by the shipyard or commissioned by them to review ship-building operations, plan for performance improvement, assess prospects for the company and similar topics. Also includes projects case files, 1943-1985 which concern events, projects and products of the shipyards, and include transactions with parent companies such as DOSCO and Hawker Siddeley, government departments, private organizations, and prominent individuals. Subjects include significant construction projects such as fishing trawlers, SEDCO oil rigs, and floating dry docks, and events such as modernization and reconstruction programs and public relations and promotional campaigns. Technical drawings are a representative sample of ships' plans and drawings considered significant to the yard's production and operations. They represent vessel production and major projects built at the yard including freighters, icebreakers, Argentinian transports built in 1950, ferries, steel trawlers, tugs, and oil rigs. There are also samples of ships repaired and refitted, products other than ships manufactured and built, and plans of the physical layout of the yard (buildings, machinery and equipment). Photographs were commissioned by the shipyard to document major construction and repair projects, actitvities of yard workers and prominent officials, and related subjects. A scrapbook consists of one volume of clippings from mainly Halifax newspapers, depicting activities of the shipyard and other contemporary events in the shipping and marine industries.
Halifax Shipyards LimitedConsists of photographs of Guysborough and vicinity and Buckley family and friends, predominantly by William Buckley and his children, Mary, Edith and Walter. Their photographs of Guysborough and vicinity, taken for both personal and commercial purposes, document the growth and development of Guysborough over fifty years. They depict commercial and residential buildings, streets, harbour, general views, shipping, school activities, community events, fires, outdoor hockey and curling, yachting regattas at Guysborough and Canso, building and bridge construction, farms and livestock, mills, Guysborough Railway survey, 193rd Regiment leaving Guysborough, 1916 and visit of Governor-General Byng, 1923. Also includes negatives left by others for printing, such as school field day, 1932, by Mrs. Erdine Harris and Larry's River and Charlos Cove by Rev. A.H. Cormier. Buckley family photographs included informal portraits of them and their friends and reflect their interests, particularly boating, building working model boats, gardening, and other outdoor activities such as sledding and skating.
