Many of the analyses were done by the Department of Chemistry at King's College, Windsor, N.S.

Series principally includes correspondence directed to the department (often including maps, plans, reports, and telegrams) that discussed the particulars of the accident and the subsequent measures taken. The reports were usually produced by the mining company involved or by the mine inspectors.

Much of the executive correspondence may be found here, including that of Edwin Gilpin, deputy commissioner. Letter books are indexed by name of addressee.

quarterly returns of birth registrations made by local registrars and forwarded to the federal statistics office in Halifax N.S. For each birth the registration information includes the name of the person born, the date and place of birth, the mother's maiden name, the father's name, residence and occupation, when and where the parents were married, the date and birth was registered and who provided the information. The returns are in alphabetical order by name of registration district.
