Fonds consists of minutes of the East and West Branch East River Bible Society which cooperated as a branch of Auxiliary Bible Society at Pictou. In later years, the minutes are for the Bible and Evangelical Society, which was also recorded as the Evangelical and Bible Society, or simply as the Bible Society. The minute-book begins with the arrival of Rev. J. Thomson, agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society.

Borden. Consists mainly of professional-quality photographs by International Film Services, Boston, Massachusetts, it also includes several amateur snapshots.

Consists of master videocassettes (U-Matic and VHS) of television programs broadcast by Halifax Cablevision on Halifax Community Channel Ten. Includes a variety of programming such as documentaries, talk shows, stock shots, bloopers, and special event coverage. Includes the complete series "East Coast Authors", 1985-1987, a weekly talk show hosted by Lesley Choyce which continued as "Choyce Words", 1987-1994, and evolved to feature interviews with nationally and internationally acclaimed authors. Among the authors interviewed are Margaret Atwood, Kay Hill, Sheree Fitch, Hugh MacLennan, Farley Mowat, Thomas Raddall, and David Suzuki.

Georgia H. Cunningham

Consists of negatives taken by Georgia H. Cunningham for clients who patronized her commercial studio. The geographic area represented is almost exclusively Bridgetown and surrounding area. Cunningham's work is primarily portraiture although from 1942 onwards there are a number of photographs of school classes and societies as well as the Bridgetown Salvation Army Citadel. Approximately five percent of the photographs include views of shopfronts, buildings, churches, streets, scenery and special events such as the visit of the Bishop of Nova Scotia to St. James Anglican Church in 1946. Also includes a few glass plate negatives which may have been taken by previous commercial studio owners Joseph Rice or Edith Crosskill, as well as negatives and prints left with her by clients for processing or given to her by others. Also contains a photograph and three letters concerning Dr. Otto Srasser (1898-1974) a Nazi exile who lived in Paradise, Nova Scotia for fifteen years.

Fonds consists of photographs (negatives, prints, contact sheets, slides and transparencies) created by Brooks in the course of his photojournalism assignments. Fonds also contains related correspondence, scrapbooks, and publications which feature his photographs and stories. A significant portion of his work focuses on the Atlantic Provinces, particularly Nova Scotia, with emphasis on industries, historic communities and events, prominent people, and human interest stories involving the Nova Scotia Home for Coloured Children and Africville. Also contains scrapbooks compiled by Brooks' mother, available on microfilm.

The cassette in this fonds contains dubs of five songs from two of Christie Macdonald's most successful shows, recorded when she was at the very height of her fame. "Two Little Love Bees" and "Day Dreams, Visions of Bliss" are both from "Spring Maid", and were recorded in 1911. "Sweethearts", "Crickets on the Hearth", and "The Angelus" are from "Sweethearts", and were recorded in 1913. All of these recordings were on the Victor label. The dubs were made from discs which were old and badly scratched. However, they do capture the beauty of Christie Macdonald's voice, and help the listener appreciate the talent of this exceptionally famous and successful Nova Scotian.

Consists of annual reports, 1954-1976, originated from the parent company (e.g. Dosco or Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd.), but are incomplete. Each includes a separate report on subsidiaries, including the Halifax Shipyards. The board of directors' files contain minutes, correspondence and similar material, while the management committee files include minutes, organizational charts and policy manuals. The contracts and agreements consist both of contract books (which have daily entries of ships built and repaired) and contract documents, which concern major construction projects such as steel fishing trawlers, SEDCO oil rigs, and the Panamax floating dry dock. The financial statements were known by various titles from 1918-1970, such as "consolidated balance sheets and profit and loss accounts", "president's reports", and "financial reports". The reports and studies were those undertaken internally by the shipyard or commissioned by them to review ship-building operations, plan for performance improvement, assess prospects for the company and similar topics. Also includes projects case files, 1943-1985 which concern events, projects and products of the shipyards, and include transactions with parent companies such as DOSCO and Hawker Siddeley, government departments, private organizations, and prominent individuals. Subjects include significant construction projects such as fishing trawlers, SEDCO oil rigs, and floating dry docks, and events such as modernization and reconstruction programs and public relations and promotional campaigns. Technical drawings are a representative sample of ships' plans and drawings considered significant to the yard's production and operations. They represent vessel production and major projects built at the yard including freighters, icebreakers, Argentinian transports built in 1950, ferries, steel trawlers, tugs, and oil rigs. There are also samples of ships repaired and refitted, products other than ships manufactured and built, and plans of the physical layout of the yard (buildings, machinery and equipment). Photographs were commissioned by the shipyard to document major construction and repair projects, actitvities of yard workers and prominent officials, and related subjects. A scrapbook consists of one volume of clippings from mainly Halifax newspapers, depicting activities of the shipyard and other contemporary events in the shipping and marine industries.

Contains 14 oral history interviews conducted by John Hawkins in the late 1960s, during the course of research for his book on Nova Scotia premier Angus L. MacDonald (1890-1954). The arrangement of the collection is chronological following the date of interview. Includes interviews with the following people: Harold Joseph Connolly, former Nova Scotia premier (1954); Ronald Manning Fielding, former M.L.A. and Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice; Henry Hicks, former Nova Scotia premier (1954 - 1956), president of Dalhousie University, Halifax, and future Senator; Senator Gordon B. Isnor, former M.L.A. and former M.P.; H.B. Jefferson; Senator John James Kinley, former Nova Scotia Cabinet Minister and former M.P. for Queens-Lunenburg; Dr. G. Murray Logan, former M.L.A.; Mrs. A.L. MacDonald; A.W. MacKenzie, former Nova Scotia Cabinet Minister; Gordon T. Purdy, former M.L.A.; and John A. Walker, former Nova Scotia Cabinet Minister. There is also a tape recording of a political speech made by Hawkins in February, 1970. The material provides a remarkable record of Nova Scotia political life in the mid-twentieth century. It also records the creator's development as an author and researcher.

Consists of transcripts of all hearings conducted by the commission, copies of all written submissions forwarded to the commission, a copy of the report, and copies of the maps created for the report. The written submissions are arranged alphabetically by names of presenters, while the transcripts of hearings are arranged chronologically. As part of its consultative process, the commission held a special session with the Mi'kmaq community to consider the nature of native representation in the House of Assembly. This formed a major portion of the commission's report, as did the recommendation to create a seat in the Preston area that would concentrate voters in such a manner that the election of a Black member would become a possibility.

Consists of three series based on the research for Parker's three books: Guides of the North Woods: hunting and fishing tales of Nova Scotia 1860-1960 (published 1990), Woodchips & Beans: life in the early lumber woods of Nova Scotia (published 1992), and Running the Gauntlet: an oral history of Canadian Merchant Seaman in WWII (published 1994). The former two series includes oral histories, copies of newspaper clippings, minute books, relating to guiding and lumbering. Subjects include lumbering and sawmills, hunting, fishing, camping and the various hunting lodges established throughout Nova Scotia. The third series contains oral histories, notices, shipping safety manuals, photographs, partial transcripts and clippings. Subjects include: merchant seamen in WWII, convoys, wartime shipping and cargo, survival at sea and capture.

Consists of material created and accumulated by Janet Kitz in preparation for the publication of her books on the Halifax Harbour Explosion of 1917. Includes photographs by Gauvin and Gentzell of the north end of Halifax after the explosion, as well as research material relating to survivors of the explosion. The research materials consist of tape recorded interviews of survivors of the event, interview transcripts and photographs and slides of those who were interviewed.

The photographs were developed by Notman Studio and were included in an article titled "Photo Sets of the Windsor Fire" in the Halifax Morning Herald on 11 November 1897.

Consists of 9 films. Five were professionally produced in the 1930's. Of those, 3 are fine examples of promotional travelogues about Nova Scotia; while the remaining two document a 1937 Wedgeport Tuna Cup Match and the [1938] installation of Canada's Governor General, Lord Tweedsmuir, as Grand Master of the Order of Good Cheer. (The promotional nature of these early films allows for speculation about whether the Province might have commissioned them for distribution to foreign markets to stimulate tourism.) The remaining films, all CBC produced, were acquired due to Hames' professional involvement with CBHT as part of the films' production staff.

Other recordings accumulated by Oxley feature the Hants East Regional High School band, Les Troubadours, The Sable Island Chorale, Anne Murray and others in concert in Charlottetown, J. Chalmers Doane of the Halifax District School Board, transcriptions done for CBC, and interviews with, or about, Karen Oxley.
