In the earlier years the court activity was recorded, first as rough minutes and later rewritten as the official record of the court's activities. The books record the daily opening and closing of the court, the judges present, the parties to a case, their counsel, the names of witnesses and the disposition of the case. Includes one volume which was used for special sittings, and in particular when the court sat as an elections court to hear disputes relating to electoral matters.

Subseries forms part of Circuit records at Windsor series and consists of a book recording the dispositions of criminal cases before a number of courts at Windsor, Nova Scotia. The ledger, like a cause book, records the issuing of case numbers starting with 3300 on January 27, 1930 and continues to case 3559 on April 30 1965 and records the name of the accused, the charge, the magistrate and / or judge hearing the case, papers filed, the verdict and under remarks the sentence is recorded. The ledger was used for the cases heard by the Grand Jury, the County Court under the jurisdiction of the Speedy Trials Act, the Supreme Court and also for appeals from lower courts.

Series forms part of the Official record books series of the Supreme Court at Halifax sub-fonds and consists of registers used to record the filing of petitions for divorce as well as subsequent actions by the court in relation to the petition, including the granting of any decrees, the hearing of evidence, and the filing of orders for support and maintenance. The pagination and numbering of the volumes subsequent to 1901 reflect case numbers assigned by the registrar. The books prior to 1901 are of a different character and record, verbatim, decrees issued by the court as well as recording other actions in relation to the case.

From 1877 to 1895, the same book was also used separately to record the names of persons selected as potential jurors.

In general, the books record the plaintiffs and defendants; their solicitors; the relief sought; and how the actions was disposed of by the court (often including the amount of any judgment rendered). Some dockets are divided into separate declaration, summary and crown cause dockets for each term of the court.
