Fonds consists of records documenting the Hicks family of Annapolis County, N.S., predominantly created and accumulated by Ben Church Hicks, as well records documenting his personal activities and interests. Includes personal diaries kept from 1910 to 1981 (irregular entries), correspondence, essays, newspaper clippings, articles, legal and financial records, research and genealogical notes, diagrams, reports, minutes of meetings, pamphlets and other publications. Among the subjects covered are: Fundy tidal power, nuclear power, electricity and electrical systems, engineering profession, genealogy, philosophy, and science. Organizations represented include: Shawnigan Water and Power Company, Southwest Petroleum Corporation, Canadian Engineering Association, and Annapolis Valley Pioneer Museum. Fonds also contains correspondence, accounts, legal and other material documenting the personal and business activities of the Hicks family, 1814-1925, including John H. Hicks Sr., John H. Hicks Jr., J. Herbert Hicks, Edward A. Hicks, Phebe A. Hicks, Grace (Watson) Hicks, as well as John Church and the Fowler family of Annapolis Co. Also includes photograph albums, ca. 1865-1945, mostly kept by Mary Helena Hicks and Ben Church Hicks depicting family (Hicks, Fowler, Hall, Clark families) and scenes of Bridgetown.
