John F. Rogers
1995-370 · Fonds · [192-?]-[195-?]

Consists of black and white photographs that document the news stories Rogers was involved in either as shipping reporter, city editor or news reporter. Most depict ships of all kinds, e.g., tall sailing ships, steam ships and naval vessels, and ships in the port of Halifax. Also includes images of disasters such as damaged and torpedoed ships, and fires and floods in the Halifax area. Of significance are images of the Queen Hotel fire (1939), naval vessels returning troops to Halifax (1945), a view of St. Peter's Canal by W.R.MacAskill, new fire apparatus at a fire in the old historic properties area, Halifax, ca. 1920s, and a flood in Bedford near the train station, ca. 1950s. The photos were taken by various parties, some by Halifax Chronicle newspaper photographers Wilfred Doucette and Roy Tidman, a few by the Canadian military, and many by anonymous parties. Also includes a few postcards depicting large ships from around the world that visited the port of Halifax.
